I had the great honor to participate in the first exchange between Rikkyo and Millais School. This time it was our turn to visit our exchange buddies and to see how their everyday life was. I had been very excited but unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to stay at my buddy’s house because my buddy’s family had not the required documents to let me stay so another family hosted me. I am very grateful to them for being so kind to me and I can’t thank them enough for having me. The transfer from one family to the other was a little bit tiring but on that account I had the chance to see and to communicate with two English families.
Every single day at Millais was something very special and of course a lot of fun but if I had to choose the best day there I would say it was on Thursday the 12th March, which was my 15th birthday. I hardly can imagine a better day for it than it was that day. The day began perfectly with the news that there would be no school because of snow so I could sleep a little bit longer than usual. Then at 10 o’clock my buddy came to pick me up and we drove to her home where I found a table full of birthday presents and a cake with candles on it, birthday cards and two lovely balloons. I was so surprised and so happy about it that no words on this world could define my feeling. After that we watched a movie, which I always wanted to watch.
Then we met six friends in the city and after a few hours we went to a restaurant to celebrate my birthday. Almost everybody was there and the food was delicious and we all danced to the song “Macarena” , which was very funny. But the best part of the dinner was the desert. There was a big cup of ice cream and the waitresses and everybody in the restaurant sang “Happy
Birthday” to me. I was so happy to have my friends around me and I am sure that I will never forget that day.
I could write so much more about the exchange but it would be too long so I should stop here. At the end I can’t express enough what a great experience it was to do this exchange. It gave me a wonderful chance to get in touch with native English speakers and through this I could find the person in me again who loves to speak and to study English language. If I could do this exchange again I’m certain that I would do it over and over again! Now after this incredible week I can recommend it to everyone who has the chance to do it next year and the following years as well.
At the very end of this report I want to thank every teacher at Rikkyo and Millais School especially the teachers who made this exchange possible and my two wonderful host families and of course my lovely buddy Carly.
Thank you so much!
